Kalkaska County Forestry

Healthy forests are the best plant cover to protect our rivers, lakes and streams from soil erosion. Forests provide renewable building products, jobs, recreation, and are critical to water quality and wildlife habitat. Kalkaska County has its fair share of trees and it is up to us to protect them. We monitor county owned woodlots and can assist private landowners in monitoring and managing their land. There are many programs like the Forestry Assistance Program (FAP), Qualified Forest Program (QFP), and the Commercial Forest Program (CFP) that can assist in managing woodlots with various objectives in mind.
