2025 Tree Sale
The 2025 Kalkaska Conservation District Tree Seedling Sale is live!
This is our most exciting time of the year and a chance to be a part of a large reforestation project across the state of Michigan with other Conservation Districts.
Tree orders will be accepted from 01/13/2025 until 04/10/2025. Orders can be placed online through our District Store, by mailing an order form to us (PO Box 2068, Kalkaska, MI 49646), or by visiting the KCD office (406 S Cedar St, Kalkaska, MI).
Available species: American hazelnut, black elderberry, ninebark, red osier dogwood, serviceberry, winterberry, witch-hazel, balsam fir, red pine, white pine, white spruce, white cedar, white oak, Chinese chestnut, Roselow crabapple, sugar maple, paper birch, tuliptree.
Information about the species we offer can be found in our 2025 Tree Seedling Sale Catalog.
Things to remember about our tree sale and seedling care:
Our inventory is limited to seedlings, so they are just little guys. They average 3 years old and about 8 inches to 3 feet depending on the species. They will take some patience and love to grow big and tall.
Depending on planting location, routine watering during the dry part of summer would help them get off to the right start.
A few inches of mulch can go a long way too. Use anything from a standard (un-dyed mulch) to leaf litter and grass clippings around the base on the trees in an ‘erupted volcano shape’. Mulch shouldn’t be piled around the base of a tree, it’s a recipe for critters and fungus to take hold.
Please let us know if you have any questions about the ordering process or an update on tree inventory. We are happy to work with you to figure out what trees would be best suited for your property and soil type. We will even come out for a FREE site visit.
If you have a burning question about species or availability or buying in bulk (100 or more of a single species), don’t hesitate to reach out. If you are looking for a species that we don’t have inventory for, please give us a call and we can check with our suppliers about getting them or working with a neighboring Conservation District.
For all your tree needs, please call the District office at 231-258-3307 or email Renee at renee.penny@macd.org.

“2023 Season Highlights:
Over 26,000 trees have made their way to their forever homes and are putting down roots. We also have to thank the Kalkaska County Road Commission for their willingness to partner to provide us with space to host the sale AND many thanks to Michigan CAT for the ice cream social and equipment they provide to the KCRC. It was very cool to see the equipment they use to maintain over 800 miles of road within Kalkaska County.
Thank you, Kalkaska County Land Stewards!”
