1-Night Hike & Camp

  • Kalkaska Municipal Lot 107 3rd St Kalkaska, MI, 49646 United States (map)

The Kalkaska Conservation District (KCD) and Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition (LWKSFC) are teaming up to bring your family another fun and healthy activity this summer!

We had so much fun on our 2023 Hike & Camp that we are doing it again!

What to expect:

  • 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 1: Meet at the Kalkaska Municipal Lot (on the corner of Walnut St and Third St). Kalkaska Public Transit will pick up campers and depart the parking lot by 1:15 pm. KCD Staff will drive a separate vehicle to the campground with all camping supplies and whatever belongings kids don’t want to hike with.

  • Transit will drive us down Island Lake Road and drop us off on the North Country Trail. We will hike the North Country Trail the remainder of the way (3-4 miles) into Guernsey Lake State Campground.

  • Once at camp, campers will set up their own tents. When set up is complete, we will explore the campground, fish, hike, etc.

  • On Friday, August 2: campers will help to disassemble camp before Transit picks us up from the campground and brings us back to the Municipal Lot for a 1:00 pm parent pick-up.

Snacks, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, and 1 lunch will be provided. Camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, etc.) can be provided, but campers may also bring their own.

This event is for children aged 10-16. Children under 10 are welcome if a parent/guardian attends. All adults who attend must undergo a background check.

Registration is required by Monday, July 29th (registration will close early if we reach capacity). Register by following this link.

The partnership between the Conservation District and Substance Free Coalition is unique to Kalkaska. We are proud to have the opportunity to encourage youth to live a substance-free lifestyle while offering healthy alternative activities. Kalkaska County is full of natural beauty and our goal is to teach local youth how to feel comfortable enjoying it.
