The Kalkaska Conservation District (KCD), Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition (LWKSFC), and Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Department are teaming up to host our 3rd Annual Hike & Camp!
What to expect:
10:00 am on Wednesday, August 13: Meet at the Kalkaska Municipal Lot. Kalkaska Public Transit will pick up campers & depart the lot by 10:15 am. KCD Staff will drive a separate vehicle to the campground with all camping supplies and whatever belongings campers are not hiking with.
Transit will drop us off on the North Country Trail off of South River Road. We will hike the North Country Trail the remainder of the way (~4 miles) into Guernsey Lake State Campground.
Once at camp, campers will set up their own tents. When set up is complete, we will explore the campground, fish, hike, etc.
On Thursday, August 14: campers will help to disassemble camp before Transit picks us up from the campground and brings us back to the Municipal Lot for a 12:00 pm parent pick-up.
Snacks, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, and 2 lunches will be provided. Camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, etc.) is provided, but campers may also bring their own.
This event is for children aged 10-16. Children age 5-9 are welcome if a parent/guardian attends. All adults who attend must undergo a background check.
Registration is required by August 9 (registration will close early if we reach capacity).
