Youth & Family Fall Hike

  • Kalkaska Conservation District 406 South Cedar Street Kalkaska, MI, 49646 United States (map)

The Kalkaska Conservation District (KCD), Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition (LWKSFC), and the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Department are teaming up to bring your family another fun and healthy activity this fall!

Celebrate the beauty of autumn with a scenic hike along the North Country Trail! We’ll begin our adventure at the new trailhead just south of Kalkaska (710 S Cedar St) and follow the trail along the Boardman River. This stretch of trail offers a stunning display of fall colors!

Meet us in the trailhead parking lot at 4:30 and we will be done hiking by 6:30pm. Participants can expect to walk a total of 2-3 miles. We will ID trees & plants, look for wildlife, learn how to navigate trails, and practice mindfulness as a coping mechanism to handle everyday stressors.

If transportation is a limiting factor in you/your child(ren)’s attendance, please reach out to Sarah at sarah.schroeder@macd.org or call/text 231-564-9055.

This event is for children 10 and up, but children under 10 are welcome if a parent or guardian attends.

Please wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. We recommend bringing your own water bottle, but we will also have water and snacks available. This event will take place rain or shine. In the event of severe inclement weather, we will reschedule.

RSVPs are encouraged but not required! You may do so by filling out the form below or by calling or texting Sarah at 231-564-9055. If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah.

The partnership between the Conservation District, Substance Free Coalition, and Sheriff’s Department is unique to Kalkaska. We are proud to have the opportunity to encourage youth to live a substance-free lifestyle while offering healthy alternative activities. Kalkaska County is full of natural beauty and our goal is to teach local youth how to feel comfortable enjoying it.

**If you are interested in volunteering with us for our kid/family events this summer (hiking, biking, canoeing, camping), please contact Sarah at sarah.schroeder@macd.org or text/call 231-564-9055. Background checks are required for volunteers working with children.
