Bundle up and join the Kalkaska Conservation District, Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition, and the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office for a snowshoe hike designed for youth, families, and community members!
We’ll meet at 5:00 PM in the parking lot behind Big Boy Restaurant (660 US-131, Kalkaska, MI 49646). After getting geared up, we’ll walk together to the North Country Trail trailhead just south of the Village of Kalkaska (710 S Cedar St, Kalkaska) and head out for a just-under-two-mile, out-and-back hike along the North Country Trail. The North Country Trail trailhead parking lot IS NOT PLOWED.
A limited number of snowshoes and poles will be available to borrow, but please bring your own if you have them. We will supply a small snack before we get going to keep everyone energized, and have hot cocoa to warm you up after the hike.
Please be aware: Snowshoes will be made available to children attending the hike before adults. Thank you for understanding.
This event is FREE and open to the public. While you know your child’s abilities best, we believe this hike is best for children 8 & up.
This is a snow-or-shine event. In the case of severe inclement weather, the hike will be rescheduled. If there is no snow, the event will still take place as a hike without snowshoes.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah at sarah.schroeder@macd.org or call/text 231-564-9055.
RSVPs are required for anyone borrowing snowshoes and encouraged for everyone else so we can keep you informed of any cancellations or updates. Please fill out the form below to RSVP.
