Do you own property, want to own property, or want to learn more about forestry? We are hosting a Forest Owner Field Day and everyone is invited!
Join us on the 40 acres owned by Kalkaska County off of Adams Rd and East M-72. We will begin at 10:00 am with introductions and start the morning talking about forest health, tree planting, logging, and more with Foresters Larry Czelusta and Ellie Johnson. Monica Caster, District Conservationist with NRCS, will then share what government assistance programs are available for landowners.
After lunch Lindsey Bona-Eggeman, Program Coordinator with CAKE-CISMA, will teach us the importance of knowing and managing invasive species on your property. Julie Crick, Natural Resource Educator with MSU-E, will then give us an overview of Forest Forensics (the art and science of using clues to determine the history of a local area).
We will end the afternoon with a plant and tree ID walk of the property.
Please note this event will take place outside, rain or shine. In the event of severe inclement weather, we will reschedule. Come dressed for a day in the woods and prepared to walk.
Attendance is $15, which includes a day of learning, lunch, and light refreshments.
All attendees will park at Camp Kellogg (625 Adams Rd NE, Kalkaska, MI 49646) and we will shuttle you to the property from there to keep cars off of the side of the road. Look for the “Conservation District Event” signs!
