We need your ears to help us survey and listen for frogs and toads in the wetlands of Kalkaska County!
Join us at dusk and be chorused by Spring Peepers and Bull Frogs. Those interested are encouraged to pre-register before meeting us at Manistee Lake Sands Park to caravan to the 10 survey sites. Once registered you will receive a copy of the frog and toad audio files of Michigan. Don’t fret, it’s not a ton of calls, there are only 13 native frog and toad species of Michigan.
Frogs and toads play an important role in the natural environment by contributing to the ecological systems as predator and prey. This makes it so important we keep tabs on their populations and monitor their environment for various threats like habitat loss, pollution, illegal collection, and overharvest. This Frog Watch is part of a citizen science effort with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. You can read more about the program here.
