Managing for Diversity in your Northern Hardwood Forest

  • Kalkaska Conservation District 7346 U.S. 131 Fife Lake, MI, 49633 United States (map)

The northern hardwood forest has lost its American Elm, White Ash, and is presently losing American Beech. Many see Paper Birch, Black Cherries, and Red Oak dying. What is happening to our forests and what can we do to help this valuable part of our natural surroundings. This field workshop will discuss what is causing these changes, and ways to help this forest, including what and where to plant various tree seedlings.

This workshop is free but limited on space. Registration is recommended. We will meet at Craig Heckert’s property located at 7346 US 131 SW, Fife Lake, MI. The driveway entrance is 400 yards south of Shippy Rd. intersection and 3.3 miles north of the Fife Lake round-a-bout. Look for signs and District vehicle at end of the drive on west side of US 131.

To join us for a robust discussion please RSVP in the form below. You can also contact staff at 231-258-3307!
