ReLeaf Tree Planting in Kalkaska
What’s happening?
We have partnered with the Village of Kalkaska and ReLeaf Michigan (and many others) to complete a tree planting project within the village limits of Kalkaska. Join us on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 8:45am to 1:00p to test your knowledge on tree planting. We will begin at Chalker Park (200 Laurel St., Kalkaska, MI) with light refreshment and a course on proper tree planting at 9:00am. We will then disperse in small groups to plant all 50 trees by lunch time.
History
This project is the outcome of a recently completed tree canopy assessment to enhance the overall tree canopy of Kalkaska and provide shade in Chalker Park and various locations throughout the village. We are looking for volunteers. Families are encouraged and welcome to participate in the event. ReLeaf Michigan experts (and the conservation district!) will be at the event to help volunteers learn how to correctly plant and maintain the trees.
ReLeaf Michigan, a non-profit organization, partners with communities statewide to replenish our tree canopies through tree planting events. Trees provide many benefits to communities such as shade, improving economic vitality of commercial districts, absorbing storm water, and reducing carbon in our atmosphere.
We need you!
Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing and bring a shovel and other appropriate tools.
Event occurs rain or shine. No planting experience is necessary. Join us and leave a legacy that your children and grandchildren can watch grow and thrive, while also beautifying our wonderful village.
This event is FREE!
RSVP’s are appreciated. RSVP to Gayenell Gentelia at
