Grass Lake Hike

  • Kalkaska Municipal Lot 107 3rd St Kalkaska, MI, 49646 United States (map)

The Kalkaska Conservation District (KCD) and Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition (LWKSFC) are teaming up to bring your family another fun and healthy activity this summer!

On Monday, June 17, we will hike the Upper Manistee Headwaters: The Milock Family Preserve. This 1,300 acre property has almost 6 miles of trails and is home to a variety of wildlife habitats.

We will not be walking all 6 miles of trails, but participants can expect to walk a total of 2-3 miles. We will ID trees & plants, look for wildlife, learn how to navigate trails, and practice mindfulness as a coping mechanism to handle everyday stressors.

Transportation is provided from the downtown Kalkaska municipal lot (Walnut & Third St) to the preserve. Lunch is also provided.

If your family is attending and would prefer to meet us at the preserve, please specify that in your RSVP. If driving separately, plan to meet us at the preserve at 9:30 am.

This event is for children 8 and up, but children under 8 are welcome if a parent or guardian attends.

Drop-off is at the municipal lot at 9:00 am. The bus will leave the lot by 9:10. Pick-up is at the municipal lot at 1:00 pm.

Please wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. We recommend bringing your own water bottle, but we will also have water available. This event will take place rain or shine. In the event of severe inclement weather, we will reschedule.

The partnership between the Conservation District and Substance Free Coalition is unique to Kalkaska. We are proud to have the opportunity to encourage youth to live a substance-free lifestyle while offering healthy alternative activities. Kalkaska County is full of natural beauty and our goal is to teach local youth how to feel comfortable enjoying it.

RSVPs are REQUIRED by Thursday, June 13, and can be done by filling out this Google Form.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah at sarah.schroeder@macd.org or 231-258-3307.
