Do you like ice cream? Do you like to hunt or fish, or hike on the many trails in the area, or spend time recreating in one of our many lakes and streams? Would you like to learn how you can help support conservation work in Kalkaska County?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then plan to attend a free Ice Cream Social event scheduled for August 24th at 7 pm at Railroad Square in downtown Kalkaska!
The Friends of the Kalkaska Conservation District welcomes everyone to this educational event, and learn how you can become more involved in the natural resource projects in our community. The Friends of the KCD is a new local nonprofit organization, dedicated to supporting the Conservation District’s mission. Their goals are:
To encourage community and volunteer participation in activities.
To inform county residents of the District’s services, resources and needs.
To raise funds for conservation projects.
To provide support to expand and improve the District’s service and resources.
Volunteer opportunities include assisting in tree planting and native planting projects, being part of a stream sampling team, working side-by-side with other volunteers during river cleanups, highway cleanups, tree sale, and Household Hazardous Waste days, planning educational events and fundraisers, and many, many more!
In addition to the ice cream and toppings, there will be a brief presentation, and an opportunity to ask questions of the Conservation District Team and Founders of the Friends.
Join us, as we discuss the projects and programs of the Kalkaska Conservation District, and enjoy some ice cream and conversation with like-minded people. For more information on this event, or to RSVP, please call or text Marilyn at 906-458-8065 or email friends@kalkaskaconservation.org. Hope to see you there!
