Calling all forest landowners! We’re hosting a special open forum to learn more about our local forests. And we need you!
This forum is a follow up from a 2017 study of large forest owners' responses to threats to forest health in Kalkaska and the northern great lakes region. That study was led by Dr. Paige Fischer of the University of Michigan and she conducted a series of meetings with landowners, including the one here in Kalkaska. Many participated and we’re taking another look at the ‘state of our forests’.
We’d love to hear from those that own larger parcels and enjoy their forested land. We’d love to learn about your management successes (and failures) and create a learning community to protect our forest resources. The Kalkaska Conservation District staff and Forestry Assistance Program staff will lead discussions about potential management objectives and emerging threats to our forest resources.
