Friends Of Kalkaska Conservation District Meeting Planned for September 28

By Marilyn Shy

On August 24, the Friends of the Kalkaska Conservation District held an ice cream social along with its first membership meeting. Attendees enjoyed several different flavors of ice cream and toppings, as well as hearing about the current activities of the Conservation District.  Several of the founding members spoke about how the group came to be organized, future plans, and opportunities to be involved.

The next membership meeting will take place at 7 pm on September 28 at Railroad Square in downtown Kalkaska. District Forester Larry Czelusta will present “Stump Tales”, a story of the land and the profound impacts we can have on a generational scale. Don’t miss it! The meeting is free and open to the public. It will also include an election to the group’s first board of directors. We are currently seeking folks to run for the Board. If you have an interest in Conservation and helping to improve the County’s natural resources, we need you!

PS, did we mention there will be apple cider?!? And maybe donuts?!
