Winter Tree ID Hike
***UPDATE*** Due to icy roads, we are going to RESCHEDULE the Winter Tree ID Hike to WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6th from 1-3 pm. Safety is our #1 priority, and we believe it is in everyone's best interest to avoid the roads if possible today. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we hope to see you on Wednesday, March 6th at the South Boardman Nature Preserve!
Whether you really like nature or just want to try something fun outside, join us on a winter tree adventure! “But in the winter?!?” you ask. YES! Winter is the perfect time to learn how to identify trees and shrubs. We'll look closely at tree branches, and check out the cool bark patterns, and characteristics of the whole tree, not just its leaves.
Renee Penny will lead a guided hike around the South Boardman Nature Preserve. Along this one mile of trail we’ll take a deeper look at tree barks, branches, and buds.
Please come dressed for the weather; we will be outside for the duration of the event. We will be sticking to the trail, but you will have the option to go off-trail to get a closer look.
This is a rain, snow, or shine event unless there is a severe winter weather advisory in effect. On the off chance that we do have to reschedule, we will post any updates at least 4 hours prior to the start of the hike. You can also call the office with any questions, (231) 258-3307.
This is a free event open to anyone interested in learning about trees. RSVP’s are welcome but not mandatory for this event. If you wish to RSVP, please complete the form below the event flyer.
