Board Member Elections

Calling all those interested in serving the local community and Kalkaska County!

The board of directors of the Kalkaska Conservation District are seeking candidates to serve as board directors. Candidates will be elected at the Conservation District election to be held at the Annual Meeting on October 10, 2018 at 6:30pm. Two of the five seats are up for election on the board. One seat will serve a 3 year term and the second seat to serve a 4 year term.

Our board is made up of five community members with diverse backgrounds who all share the goal of helping to conserve Michigan’s natural resources. All board positions are voluntary and individuals may receive reimbursement for District business of mileage and actual expenses only (all expenses must be pre-authorized). Board members are responsible for the development and implementation of all District programs, plus financial and employee management. The Board meets monthly to hear reports from staff, plan programs and activities, approve bills and financial plans. Board meetings are scheduled for the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and residents of Kalkaska County. Candidates should be interested in and passionate about local agriculture, forestry, and natural resources of Kalkaska County. A knowledge of natural resources, biology, forestry, ornithology, botany, or outdoor recreation is helpful, but not necessary.

Petitions can be found at the end of this page or can be picked up in person at the Kalkaska Conservation District office at 406 South Cedar Street, Kalkaska, MI 49646. Nominating petitions must be submitted by 5:00pm on August 10, 2018. Petitions should be completed in its entirety and have five signatures of support from valid-voting residents of Kalkaska County. Elections will be held at the Kalkaska Conservation District Annual Meeting on October 9, 2018 at 6:30pm.
