Sprouting Seeds Indoors – Is it Time?
The days are getting longer. Even though there is a thick layer of white covering everything I can see, there is a hint of spring in the air as the sun climbs higher into the sky each day. I can feel it, and I can almost taste it. Plus there are all of those seed catalogs stacked up on my desk. Could it be time to start planting seeds indoors? Well….maybe!
Board Member Wanted
The Board is seeking applications to fill 1 vacant seat for a general director position. This vacancy will be appointed at a regular monthly meeting until the general election at the Annual Meeting on October 15th, 2019. The Board will meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, at 6:30pm. Anyone is welcome to join the meetings and learn more about District operations and outreach planning.

Free Forestry Assistance Now Available
The Kalkaska Conservation District has a new, part-time staff person available to help forest landowners in Kalkaska County. Larry Czelusta, currently the Conservation District Forester in Wexford and Missaukee Counties, has expanded his territory, and has a wealth of experience in tree-related issues and forest management. Larry particularly enjoys working with landowners to provide solutions to what he calls, “bugs and rots.” He likes diagnosing tree illnesses, and providing recommendations on how to help the tree that is stressed, but also manage for the overall health of the forest or woodlot.
